Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Movie

At long last we are in Narnia again, and praise God this time they got it right!

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was an epic adventure, yet it seemed that Narnia had forgotten it was Christian at all. Yet still worse was Prince Caspian that was far too dark and full of unnecessary squabbling and made up plot twists. However, the third time is the charm. So please do not write of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader as another greedy attempt at the expense of Lewis' good name. This film is in an entirely different league.

The first and most important change is that a whole lot of dialogue is taken right from the book, novel concept (no pun intended). The film, if you pay attention to the small sayings, quips and gems of dialogue is very Christian indeed.

Secondly, the movie is FUN and POSITIVE! Parents do not fear making a family movie night out of this film. I would only caution that there is a scary sea monster, some skeletons and some minor peril. However, there is no blood, cursing, nudity or sensuality.

Lastly, Aslan (read Jesus) has been given control of His country again and there are a very many number of good moral lessons to be taught, remembered and learned in Narnia this time around. The seven deadly sins are all shown, overcome and virtue reigns supreme. Also, the Love of Aslan (Jesus) reigns supreme.

Now this is far from a perfect movie, yet aside from some uneven pacing, cardboard acting ( Reepicheep and Eustace save the movie), and lack of character depth, it is very good. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a children's book and thus a children's movie and a wonderful replacement for all the vague and "its good but" garbage being put out these days. So do yourself a favor and set sail for Aslan's Country!

Possible Parent Discussions:

1. The Seven Deadly Sins and how the characters deal with their vices, fears and doubts.
2. How is Eustace better at the end of the movie than the beginning?
3. What is Aslan's Country and why would we want to go there?
4. Does Eustace save himself or does Aslan save Him?
5. How can we use the lessons of Narnia in our own lives?
